    Saitek rudder failure, repair

    Yeah, your approaches today looked pretty good mac, I only had to give you minor power/altitude calls, and you come in consistently to the left of center (but you were good at correcting it when I called it). The main thing holding you back is just that throttle control in-close, all your bolters were barely floated over the 4 wire, or from settling too much in close and hook-skipping, so just work on smoothing out those in-close corrections and you'll increase your boarding rate dramatically. And yeah, coming in at 33-34k lbs makes it much more float-resistant in-close. Would recommend you stay a little heavier for sure.
  3. Eh, we all have rough days, ask breetai about his issues hahah. Just shake it off and try again tomorrow/monday! Also moving forward we're going to do things a little different with the pattern around the boat, things got to chaotic with 5 guys running around all willy-nilly (not that anyone in particular was doing anything wrong). So in crowded environments all flights will launch from the stennis and fly a case1 departure to ~7 miles and then enter the port hold and do a full commence from there. That should keep everyone out of each others way and prevent people from getting stepped on. (If there's just one or two guys flying, as long as its agreed upon by both the bolter/wave-off pattern can be used)

Introduce Yourself to the Squadron: Located in the VMFAT-101 Forum Ensure you read and understand all the documentation: Any documents listed in this post Conduct an Interview with one of our Instructor Pilots: You will be contacted directly by an IP or someone in Command to set this up on Discord Perform Initial Checkride: Upon passing, you will be inducted, if you don’t pass continue to communicate, practice, and get with our IPs to improve your skills. All new pilots will be kept in VMFAT-101 for a period of ~30 days. This is to ensure availability and the ability to progress through the syllabus. After ~30 days or after completion of the 2000 level syllabus, new pilots will be brought in as full members of VMFA-251. Induction into VMFAT-101: An On-Wing will be assigned, and scheduled training will begin with the 2000-Series Operational Syllabus. This should be completed in 3 months or less, usually much less, which will give you the hours and experience to become ‘Operational’ with VMFA-251.

    Drag. Drag easily cancels out the minorly positive TWR. The effect of drag on a fighter is far greater than being a few percentage points over 1:1 TWR. IRL these jets cant accelerate straight up either. Another things to consider: thrust decreases with altitude, lower density air. These jets get high very fast when you pull vertical. So you're losing a lot of your thrust as soon as you climb above 10000, maybe even 5000, I dont have numbers in front of me.

    Aside from using Wikipedia as a source, the major flaw here is you're forgetting about drag. You have to overcome gravity AND drag. If either of those aircraft had drag coefficients of zero then sure, they could accelerate straight up. Fighters are draggy by nature (compared to other types of aircraft designed to be much more sleek) in reality you'd probably need ~1.5:1 TWR or greater to actually be able to accelerate straight up in the average fighter. Maybe something like the F22 loaded light on fuel could approach that, but I even doubt that. I've hit mach 1.8 in the hornet btw, in level flight, extreme altitude and very light on fuel and it's doable.

    No, not directly, we have had and do have a lot of active and former Marines and Navy guys, but none from -251. Very interested in hearing from you about that- We are a young squadron and still going through some growing pains as all do I'm sure, but we've got a vision, goals and a plan. We are quite small still, and smaller yet this weekend as two of our main guys are away from home on work, but we have a bit of a scenario going on this weekend on our server, so we'll have a chat tomorrow, find out a bit more about each other and hopefully get some flying in. Without knowing where you are skill-wise: generally the core skills we look for are: solid understanding of the Hornet, its systems, cold start, sensors, weapons, operation, etc. Safe take off and landings, decent formation flying, a2a refueling, able to fly on-speed AoA, and good case1 pattern is a bonus. We're a virtual Marine squadron so our focus is on supporting the Marine on the ground, and we've put a lot of effort into CAS in the last couple months. The goal is to be well rounded pilots able to do everything that might be asked of a Hornet with a heavy emphasis on CAS. We do carrier ops and land based ops, currently we're flying out of Nellis.     Hang out in discord with us Mac! I keep forgetting to put info here as well: the server mission has two scripted auto-lase JTACs at the normal range area (west of Al Dhafra) that are activated via F10 menu, they have separate laser codes! I need to fix the mission before the Mavs will work but I'll be home in a couple hours to get that done.
