Welcome to the VMFA-251 website. We are currently in a workup period in anticipation of the upcoming release of the DCS World F/A-18C "Hornet"  module. Once the F/A-18C module is released VMFA-251 will be exclusively an F/A-18 squadron but, until then we are currently using the DCS World AV-8B night attack module from RAZBAM as our sole airframe. This is definitely a work in progress but if you're interested in joining VMFA-251 we would love to hear from you.

  3. Books/Media/Podcasts

Yeah it's good stuff! Here's an AMA from Harrier pilot. Some good stuff regarding take-off (typically short take-off instead of VTO because of stores) & landing conventions (vertical, but conventional landing if fuel state is low.) Also, AGM employment, typical cruise speeds, mission types, and landing pattern/procedures:
  4. Books/Media/Podcasts

Thought you might enjoy this podcast from a retired Navy (ok ok) F/A-18A-D pilot. I'm finding it entertaining and informative. He just released part 1 of a 3 part series on carrier ops. https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-fighter-pilot-podcast/id1330534712?mt=2 Can be found on android/iphone apps as well. Enjoy
  5. Mods

Just so everyone knows, here is how to install the 476 Range Targets 22OCT17.zip: Unzip file to C:\Users\*yourname*\Saved Games\DCS\Mods\tech If that doesnt work try C:\Users\*yourname*\Saved Games\DCS\CoreMods\tech You may have to create the 'tech' folder under Mods before you unzip.

  7. Introductions

Hi Plague, Thanks for the warm welcome. Looking forward to meeting you and flying with you guys as well! Understood, and that all makes sense. I've read through the orientation and SOP docs. I purchased the AV-8B yesterday and have only had about an hour with it. I am available most Sundays (after 1600 EST) & Mondays (after 2000 EST) . I will start working on the familiarization/AAR components of the AV-8B soon. Let me know if today works for anybody to fly around a bit. I am free until 1930 EST. Cranman
  8. Introductions

Hi, my name/callsign is cranman. Greetings to all! I have some experience in DCS as well as Falcon BMS. Very much looking forward to flying the F/A-18C with a group that does things right! I know this is not the place for these types of questions - but - will VFMA-251 primarily fight/play against other VFWs, or will it be more PVE? Would love to have long, campaign-like flights against real players from an OpFor squadron.
